Santa Croce is a place of memory with a dual identity, religious and civil. Located inside the first cloister of Santa Croce, the Remembrance Park symbolically remembers the fallen of the Great War who were awarded the gold medal. Here, immersed among the cypress trees, stands the imposing Renaissance statue depicting God the Father, an artwork by Baccio Bandinelli (1556) and today the “symbol” of the park. Atmospheric phenomena have affected the conservation of the work, causing mechanical damage in the areas most subject to erosion, as well as causing dark encrustations due to pollutants present in the air. “Donate, lest we forget” is a fundraising campaign dedicated to the conservation of the monument by Baccio Bandinelli.
